A.C.’s Review: FROZEN is Disney’s latest offering -based on the Hans Christian Anderson tale of the SNOW QUEEN.
Best Scene: Elsa’s powers accidentally being revealed following her coronation.
The movie is somewhat of a head
scratcher. Traditionally you think of Disney
movies as aimed at children but I’m not sure exactly what the target market was
for this film…possibly 13-14 year old girls I guess. The only thing in it for
small children are the antics of a snow man brought to life named OLAF. Unfortunately for any grown up
watching the film the annoying Olaf comes
off as the equivalent of Jar-Jar Binks
from the notorious Star Wars
prequels. The heroines of the movie are about 18 & 21 so I guess they are
somewhat relatable to young teens.
On a plus side the movie
on the surface would appear to be another Disney
romance but it’s actually the story of the love between two sisters…Princess Anna and Queen Elsa of Arendale
Kingdom. When Elsa’s powers of
controlling snow and ice are discovered and the kingdom gets accidentally frozen,
Elsa flees to the isolation of the
mountains with Anna in pursuit by Kristoff and his pet reindeer (another
comic relief character) Sven.
On the negative side there is so
much singing even more so than your usual Disney
movie that its’ very nearly an opera. Also the film borrows heavily for its
look of the setting and characters from the previous Disney movie TANGLED but
in no way matches the quality of TANGLED.
A.C.’s Rating: Matinee.
