Mike's Review: I am a 70 / 30 split on this movie. Meaning that while I liked and enjoyed 70% of the movie, I didn't like the fact they couldn't come up with a better plot then stealing and twisting things from the original 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn' (1982) movie. I understand they are rebooting the franchise, but with the last movie, 'Star Trek' (2009), they completely turned the whole 'Star Trek Universe' upside down by blowing up Vulcan, but in this movie they only changed small things which made the movie seem more predictable. I thought the cast did an outstanding job in continuing their characters' voyage in this second movie and a lot of the effects and inside trek humor were pretty good, but I still didn't like how they did some of the scenes that were a complete take off from 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn' (1982) movie.
Best Scene: The ship jumping and Enterprise free fall were pretty good..
Mike's Rating: Its worth the price of the ticket, but I wouldn't stand in line for hours to get that ticket.
Karyn's Review: This movie was OK. If you know anything about 'Star Trek' you know that none of the main characters will die and that spoiled the end for me.
Best Scene: The beginning when the ship comes out of the water.
Karyn's Review: Wait for the DVD or digital download...

Great review thanks. Agreed about the theft from WRATH OF KHAN.
ReplyDeleteIt is a well made ACTION movie but not quite a Star Trek movie. Takes too many liberties with what we know. The biggest of which is casting an actor who looks nothing like the Khan we've seen before. The internet is in a furor over this and understandably so.
Have to disagree with Karyn on the Best Scene. The ENTERPRISE is not a submarine and that was just another one of the liberties...and very silly.
The movie works the most from the moment the Dreadnaught Starship appears until the end. Very well done in those respects.
If they wanted to continue to shake up the Star Trek universe why couldn't they come up with something better then the original movie. For example making Khan a good guy in the end or Having Khan tied to the Borg someway with his pursuit of perfection. I also like the scene where the Enterprise comes out of the water, but that effect is getting old as well, they did it in the first movie with Saturn's rings and twice in this movie, once with the water and the other at the end with the clouds - Mike
